Increase safety

  • Mechanically designed

  • No hydraulic or electrical components

  • Built to excel in remote locations

  • 300,000 feet of casing run with a single tool – not one failure.

  • Fill casing on the fly

  • Compatible with virtually any top drive rig

THE SABER CRT

Engineered for Speed, Safety, and Simplicity

The Saber CRT is a purely mechanical CRT that bites on the exterior of casing.

Primary Configurations:

  • OTC: Bites on the collar.

  • BTC: Bites below the collar.

Its operation relies on gravity and basic physics. When you sit down on a joint, the segments inside the tool travel up which causes them to bite the casing. The top drive and the CRT then work together to make up the casing. When you release that downward pressure, the Saber CRT releases as well. This ability to quickly bite and release allows for casing to be run very quickly.

Quick Summary

Primary Configurations

OTC

(On The Collar)

Similar to OTC, plus:

  • Optional float sub that helps reduce the immediate impact of the top drive weight on the casing.

  • Extended body allows the segments to travel past the collar before biting.

BTC

(Below The Collar)

  • Primarily constructed from 4140 steel

  • Features an internal stabbing guide

  • Equipped with a steel fill tube for quick filling, which can be connected to a crossover sub for circulation depending on the casing size.

Maintenance

  • Made to be extremely durable. The first tool ever built didn’t have the dies changed until after running 300,000’ of casing and even then, a die change was not necessary.

Simplicity

  • The Saber CRT does not require a 3rd party crew. The driller and rig hands run the casing. This essentially replaces the cost of power tongs and casing crews.

Cost Savings

Time Efficiency

  • Setup and operation can easily be completed in under 15 minutes.

  • Casing can be run at near 1 minute per joint.

  • The CRT is simple to handle and it sits flat. When you’re done running casing, the CRT can simply be placed off to the side.

Safety Benefits

The Saber CRT can essentially be run as slow or as fast as a company likes and although speed is one of the Saber CRT’s biggest selling points, safety is too:

  • Traditionally, the Saber CRT fills casing directly, while circulation is managed either with a crossover under the tool or a standalone crossover. This eliminates the need for high-pressure hose setups, which pose safety risks to

  • Eliminates the liability that comes with a traditional casing crew.

  • The CRT’s stabbing guide eliminates the need for manual derrick alignment during standard casing makeup, reducing safety risks for rig personnel.

Conclusion

The Saber CRT is simple and efficient to use and it provides practical and significant benefits across the critical aspects of a casing operation.
